Editorial Standards

Local Weekly Paper publishes English-language news explainers and public-information coverage for readers in the United States. This page explains the standards we apply to new and substantially updated content as we rebuild the site.

Accuracy and verification

We verify material facts before publication and prefer primary sources whenever they are available, including government agencies, courts, public records, official company statements, regulatory notices, and original datasets. When primary material is unavailable or incomplete, we may use established news organizations and other reputable secondary sources.

News, allegations, and legal status

We distinguish between allegations, arrests, charges, convictions, acquittals, investigations, and findings by a court or agency. We do not present an allegation as an established fact. For developing stories, we add dates and update material information when reliable new facts become available.

Original value

Our goal is not to reproduce another publisher’s article. New coverage should add useful context, explain what changed, identify who is affected, connect readers to authoritative sources, or otherwise provide clear information that is useful beyond a rewritten headline.

AI-assisted work

Editorial tools, including AI-assisted drafting or research tools, may be used to help organize information or improve workflow. They are not treated as a source of fact. Material claims must be checked against reliable sources before publication, and fabricated quotations or invented sources are not permitted.

Legacy content review

Some legacy articles published before the site’s current rebuild may not meet these standards. We are reviewing that archive and may substantially rewrite, noindex, redirect, or remove pages that do not provide sufficient value or cannot be reliably verified.
